New Home, New Life - Aging In Place With The McMullin Design Group

New Home, New Life

Audubon, New Jersey

After her husband passed away, our client was forced to re-examine how she wanted to spend her retirement years. The home which she had shared with her husband for over 50 years had never been renovated, but a chairlift had been added after her husband fell ill.

After analyzing moving options versus renovation, it was decided that she would fully renovate the home for long-term Aging in Place living. Our goal was to open the floor plan for easy accessibility, incorporate the unused front porch into the design, add a first-floor powder room, create a semi-accessible second-floor bathroom, and add light to the overall space. She wanted the space to reflect her contemporary aesthetic but not scare away potential buyers if she needed to sell her home quickly.

We accomplished this by keeping the bones neutral with pops of color coming from fabrics and furniture. The renovation created an overall positive change in her life and outlook on her years to come!
